Store-Bound
Posted on: July 26th, 2008

We are finally getting into stores… the date is August 11 - I always thought that was a special day for some reason… ONce we get into stores, we’ll be doing various promotional performances.  Can you believe that it’s been 10 years since Dave & I supposedly “made it” with our first record deal and then over 4 years since we started Short Story.  Every good thing needs some drama, right?  Anyway,  look for us in the stores!!!!!!!!

Remember that Keahi Vai CD release party that we played at at Gordon Biersh?  Well, if you liked it… we’ll be dong another band’s CD release party at… yes… Gordon Biersh!  We really need to plan our own, don’t we?  Should be soon.  Hmmm.. where should we have it?  Anyway, so, the date is set at the end of this month - June 29.  I, therefore, need to start dieting again, find a new outfit and learn stage standing… maybe even a little kick here and there… mmmmm, I can see it now.  we’re still waiting to hear back from the distributor on getting the CD’s into stores… will keep you in the loop!

We got the new order of CD’s in this week.  Jon’s finding out about the distribution stuff.  So, as soon as we hear about that, we can start our marketing efforts.  Most will be done by the distributor, but we’ll try to get extra stuff out there… just for fun.  It’ll be interesting to see what happens.  Will Dave and Salli’s music find it’s way onto the airwaves?  we’ll find out in the next installments of… the blog.   Stay tuned!  (Sorry, so corny)

fridays are good

yep - it was pretty sweet for me.  I got Friday off because I had to work last Saturday.  Went to Waialua for some r & r and then went painting with Mindi.  It was a beautiful day.  Fridays are good.  Kind of weird word for a good day, though.

music, sweet music

I gave a speech to the Kaneohe Rotary Club this week about music.  I was wondering what I could talk about… what can I say that they don’t know.  I can’t talk for 15 minutes about me.  So, I researched music.  Turns out that music is more than I ever imagined.  You know how closely music and politics or music and policy are related?  It became theme songs for different movements over time in America.  For the Civil Right Movement, it was We Shall Overcome.  For the women’s rights movement, it was I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar.  Music has been used over time to rally for a noble cause.  Sheesh, yeah - that’s what I said.  I mean, when you hear those songs, you see images of the movements they supported.  When you think about those movements, you hear those songs in your head (at least I do).  When I was young, the song, “We Are the World” came out.  That kind of sums it up.  Cool, huh?  Which brings up a funny story… My parents’ friends organized a group of us kids that took part in a lip sync contest.  I don’t know who put it on, but I know that McDonald’s was involved.  Do you remember that?  Anyway, I chose Kim Carnes (spelling?).  Kim only really sang two words solo.  We didn’t have any headphones, but most of the people in the video had headphones on.  In some pictures, you can see me wearing make-shift styrophome cylinders held together with a bent wire hanger.  Classic.  And in my short moment of glory, those two words, “When we…” were mouthed out perfectly in sync.  My sister got to be Cyndi Lauper.  Anyway, we need another song like that.  Anyone?  Anyone?  Beuler?

We’re figuring out the ins and outs of re-ordering.  Stay tuned for our CD in stores.  Be sure to let your friends and family and coworkers know if you like the CD!!  We did the recording of the YouTube videos last week - very cool!!!  The lighting was amazing!!!!!  Can’t wait to hear how we sound.  It was a little tricky because some of the guys could only make it earlier or later - not quite at the same time… but everything worked out okay.  I can’t wait for you to see it.  We did Stardust, Carnival, Driving and hmmmm… I think that’s all.  Jon was voting for Carnival after we sang that.  I was voting for Stardust - my favorite.  Dave, I don’t know how you wrote it still.  ”That chick is deep.”  The, Jon wanted us to do  Driving after he heard that.  Guess who won?  Moi.  Yes, we will be editing STARDUST.  Originally, we thouht of just doing clips from us singing in the studio, but Joel was asking what Dave was picturing when he wrote the song.  So, we might end up with some cool clips mixed in - depends on the budget.  Yes, that’s right - the budget dictates most things before you become superstars.  Which brings me to my next point -man, we’ve exhausted all our friends and relatives - they’ve all bought from us - sometimes more than one each (Dave said Kiha did that… and he has a bunch lined up in his house).  Anyway, my point is that… I don’t know… did I mention we’re coming out in stores soon?  Yes… I do remember that.  Back to the original point or at least the second one… video coming soon.  Will let you know when!  Sal
